Foundation Begins!!!

Well, Sara got some pictures and updated the blog last week when they broke ground since I was gone to Costa Rica for Jonathan's wedding. They work so fast that they also started the foundation last week - they pack several inches of gravel before laying concrete.

We already have a mailbox! This must be a law in order to get permits because our real mailbox will be down the road a bit with everyone else's.

You can see here that they have the beginning of the foundation covered to cure 2-3 days. Our house will have about a 3' crawl space, so they are pouring what is called a "continuous spread footing" instead of a slab. The initial footing is all connected as an outline at the beginning. Next, they come back and add forms and pour more on top of this initial outline.

Here is the back-right corner of the house where our dining room will be :)

We're not exactly sure why they dug this big trench here out towards the street but we think it might be for the sewer line.
